Easy to sign up

Got the Nomad Insurance for a trip. It was super quick to get set up online. Policy details were clear. No issues yet, but felt good knowing I had coverage.

Fantastic global health insurance!

I got the Remote Health plan because I'm often working from different countries, and it's been such a lifesaver. Setting it up was really simple, and I loved how flexible it is for my lifestyle. I had a minor medical issue while I was in Portugal, and filing a claim was surprisingly smooth. They covered my doctor's visit without any hassle. This insurance gives me such peace of mind, knowing I'm covered no matter where I am. I'm definitely going to keep using SafetyWing for my international health insurance needs!

Good coverage, some claim friction

I purchased Nomad Insurance for a 3-month trip to Southeast Asia. The sign-up process was straightforward and I appreciated the clear breakdown of what was covered. Pricing was competitive, especially compared to other options I looked at. When I had to file a small claim for a doctor's visit, it took a bit longer to process than I expected; about two weeks to hear back. The customer service response was helpful once they got to my case, but the initial wait was a little frustrating. Overall, I felt well-protected and the policy met my needs for travel medical insurance, though I hope they can speed up claim processing a bit.

Thinking of switching from World Nomads to SafetyWing. How do they compare on claims? Is it a hassle to get paid out?

C Colin 1 month ago
I've filed a couple small claims with SafetyWing, nothing major, and it was pretty straightforward. Took a bit but I got reimbursed.

World Nomads vs SafetyWing is a common one. SafetyWing is generally cheaper and good for long-term, but some people say World Nomads might be better for really adventurous trips. Claims process seems pretty similar from what I've heard.

Hey guys, thinking about getting the Nomad Insurance. I'm gonna be in Thailand for a few months, then Vietnam. Does it cover me in both those places?

P Paula 1 month ago
Yeah, it's pretty much worldwide coverage, except for a few specific countries like North Korea or Iran. Thailand and Vietnam should be fine.

S Sam 1 month ago
Can confirm, I used it in like five different countries last year without issues. Just double-check their list of excluded countries, it's on their site somewhere.

Anyone know if they offer any kind of student discount? I'm traveling on a budget.

R Rosa V. 1 month ago
I haven't seen a specific student discount mentioned, but sometimes they have referral programs or partner deals that can save you a little.

Not directly, afaik. But if you're part of a bigger group or team, sometimes you can get a group discount, maybe check if your uni or a related group has anything like that going on.

Anyone know if SafetyWing covers adventure sports? Planning on doing some surfing and maybe a little diving in Costa Rica and wondering if I need separate insurance.

D Dan L. 2 months ago
They have an adventure sports add-on, you gotta specifically get that. Otherwise, regular policy probably won't cover it.

B Beth 2 months ago
Yeah, if it's 'extreme' like skydiving or competitive sports, you need the extra bit. Normal stuff like surfing is usually okay on the basic policy, but check the fine print for specifics on what they consider 'extreme' for diving.

Is there actually a discount for paying annually? Or is it just monthly subscriptions?

D Derek Brooks 2 months ago
Yup, there's usually a small discount if you pay annually instead of monthly. I think it's like 5-10% off overall.

R Renee Foster 2 months ago
I went with annual billing and saved a bit. Not huge, but every little bit helps when you're traveling.

I heard something about ambassador credits? How do you get those and can you use them to pay for your plan?

C Colin G. 2 months ago
Yeah, if you're part of their Ambassador program you can earn credits. Those credits then apply to your account.

J James 2 months ago
Basically, you sign up to be an ambassador, promote them, and get credits based on referrals. Those credits can be used to offset your insurance costs. It's not really a 'discount code' you just enter, more like an account credit.

My laptop got stolen last trip, so I really need theft coverage for my new one. Does SafetyWing offer that?

N Nick Whitfield 2 months ago
They do have electronics theft coverage as an add-on. You'd need to specifically select that when you buy the policy.

J Jared Whitfield 2 months ago
Yeah, definitely add it on if you're worried about your gear. It's not standard, but it's an option. Check the limits too, it might not cover super expensive stuff entirely.

I'm already overseas, can I still buy SafetyWing Nomad Insurance? Or do I have to be in my home country?

A Alex Beaumont 2 months ago
You can totally buy it while you're already abroad. That's one of the cool things about it for nomads.

E Elena L. 2 months ago
Yeah, bought mine a week after landing in Spain. No issues at all, just filled out the forms online.
